Nehemiah 3-4

The future of God’s kingdom does not rest on a few gifted leaders, but on the covenant faithfulness of ordinary people.

That’s what Nehemiah 3–4 can stir in us. If we believe we are part of God’s story, then we cannot just walk past the rubble, complain about the rubble, or settle into it. We are called to join God’s renewing work, by trusting in the power, presence, and promises of God by engaging in the work of God together.

Today the goal isn’t to build the wall, change the heart, or do-it-all. Jesus did that. Our job is to be content with Christ’s will, to seek the kingdom of God, and to be consistent with what is right in front of us.

Exegetical Question: God is moving His story forward — will you stoop (come under) to join the work, or will you stay standing among the rubble?

In God’s kingdom, no act of service is small. Everyone matters.
