Galatians 5:1-15

Paul isn’t offering empty hope or religious hype, like Marx’s claim that “religion is the opium of the masses.” He’s describing a freedom he’s lived—even while shipwrecked, beaten, and imprisoned. This freedom is real. Does Paul have any special powers? No. He is just free. Paul is not telling the weak and bound Galatians that Freedom happens when we retire or when we die; it happens at the beginning of our salvation, and we don’t have to live in any other way. Do you remember what you experienced when God saved you? That love, security, that freedom? That lasts.
