Galatians 4:21-31

Paul continues his argument that the Judaizers are pulling the Galatians backwards—away from Christ—into pagan worship through religious law. The issue isn't idol statues this time, but the idol of self-effort. The “Jesus + Law” gospel is no gospel at all.

Paul references Genesis to show two covenants, two mothers, and two completely different ways to relate to God. This sermon is titled: “Who Is Your Mother?” because Paul uses motherhood to press on a deep, personal issue of identity. In the South, we don’t like to ruffle feathers—especially about people’s mamas—but Paul does it for one reason: if we get this wrong, we lose everything.
