Acts 2:42-47

Big Idea: The Spirit creates a people joyfully devoted to Jesus and one another.

Jesus said, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). Acts 2 says, “The Lord added to their number.”

Our responsibility is to walk in the Spirit and devote ourselves to the ordinary things Christ has given His church. His Word. His people. His table. Prayer. Generosity. Worship. Witness. Then we trust Jesus with the results.

Some of us don't need another church activity. We need our affections reawakened to Jesus. Maybe you've lost your hunger for His Word. Maybe you've slowly isolated yourself from His people. Maybe prayer has become something you only do when everything else fails. Maybe you've started protecting your money instead of stewarding it. Maybe you've become more of a consumer of church than a participant in the life of Christ's people.

But don't hear Acts 2 and think, “I need to try harder.”

Look first at what happened before verse 42. Christ was crucified. Christ was raised. Christ was exalted. Christ poured out His Spirit. Christ forgave sinners. Christ saved His people.

Their devotion was a response to His devotion to them.

And that same Jesus is alive today.
