Acts 2:1-41
Big Idea: Pentecost demonstrates that Jesus really is alive and reigning because He has received the promised Spirit from the Father and poured Him out upon His church.
What would change about our church if we actually believed the same Holy Spirit who empowered these ordinary disciples dwells within God's people today?
Would we pray differently? Would we take greater risks in obedience? Would we depend less on ourselves? Would we expect God to work? Would we speak about Jesus more boldly? Would we cross barriers to reach people unlike us?
Acts 2 has been a long-awaited promise, but it has arrived. The Spirit has been poured out.
Not because the disciples figured out how to get more power.
Not because Peter finally became courageous enough.
Not because the church developed the right strategy.
Because Jesus is alive.
Jesus is reigning.
And Jesus has poured out His Spirit upon His people.
Church, we don't have to manufacture His power. We depend upon Him.
We don't have to wonder whether Jesus' mission will succeed. He is advancing.
And we don't get to keep this good news to ourselves. We are His witnesses.
